Share Button

Short Definition
Definition

A share button is a graphical user interface element that allows users to share content with social media platforms or email. It usually consists of an icon or text label that represents the social media platform it will share to, and when clicked, opens up a sharing window pre-populated with the page title, URL, and often a brief description. The most common share buttons are for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+. However, there are also share buttons for Pinterest, Tumblr, Reddit, StumbleUpon, and others. Many websites also have a custom share button that allows users to share content directly to their own personal network of contacts. Share buttons can be placed in various locations on a website or web page, such as in the header or footer, adjacent to the content they want to share, or as a floating element that follows the user as they scroll down the page.
